Outer Hebrides Scottish Marine Region
A useful resource to understand the marine environment of the Outer Hebrides is found on the Marine Scotland Assessment website. The table available on the Marine Scotland Assessment website (seen on the right) provides information and parameters of the Outer Hebrides Scottish marine region (SMR). While being an area for natural marine wildlife, the waters of the Outer Hebrides is affected by human interaction and interference with the natural environment. Marine aquaculture, fishing, seaweed cultivation and cutting, water abstraction and subsea cables all affect our marine environment. Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT) is a conservation charity that supports community based stewardship and conservation of Hebridean cetaceans and marine life. HWDT provide training both onshore and on their boat the Silurian, and research extremely important for the future of whales, dolphins and porpoises in our waters. HWDT have compiled a sightings map that has a record of 40,199 sightings, 280,662 animals of 20 different species. Are you interested in learning more?
