Energy Cafes with the Uist Local Energy Plan
Come and join us for the exciting energy cafes happening across Uist. Meet our local energy ambassadors and share a cup of tea while having a blether about the future of energy. How would you like energy to be developed in Uist? Share concerns, questions and work together to map out your ideas for Uist's energy future. Workshops will be tailored for home energy or transport - pick a topic you are most interested in or join both! All your ideas will be taken forward to a second workshop to prioritise the projects and then for an options appraisal. Finally, all the ideas will be included in the Uist Local Energy Plan. Watch our short animation here Volunteer Day at former Lochmaddy School, 24th July
In order for us to be ready to open the former School, some work is required to clean and freshen up the entrance hall; the exhibition room; and outdoors between the gate and the building. A bit of work is also required to lick the office area into shape so it is suitable for use by staff as NUDC; in conjunction with CnES, Stòras Uibhist and RSPB; have employed seasonal Rangers who will be based here for part of their time. Therefore, we are organising one, possibly two, volunteer days to get these tasks done. The first day will be Saturday 24 July. Come along and lend a hand. We are breaking the day into 2 hour blocks 10-12; 12-2; 2-4. It would be great if you could let us know when you might be able to come along. We would ask that you BYOB (Bring Your Own Brush) – paint brush, scrubbing brush and cleaning cloths - and/or your gardening tools. Also please bring along your own refreshments as we are not yet in a position to provide catering. We can get everything looking ship shape in no time with a little bit of help!

All the community are invited to join us to hear about progress with the UistWind project, currently under construction, and give their views on how the community should spend the future profits from the wind farm. The UistWind Construction BBQ is being held at Claddach Kirkibost, from 7pm to 9.30pm; hosted by North Uist Development Company, who are delivering the UistWind project for the benefit of the community. The barbecue is a chance for everyone to “eat, drink and be merry” to celebrate the community’s success at raising the money they needed to enable the wind farm project to go ahead, as well as to gauge views on the best use of the eventual profits. It is also being held as an opportunity to hear from turbine manufacturers Enercon, who will be coming on site from the 3rd of June to prepare to lift the turbines into place. Enercon’s project manager, Richard Biggs, will be speaking and answering questions. 3rd November 2018 - Lochmaddy School Consultation Event

NUDC climate adaptation workshops | 26th July and 2nd August | 7-9pm | Online Following on from the climate adaptation presentation (now available on our website) and discussion at our AGM in April, Connie Dawson (on behalf of the Outer Hebrides Climate Change Working Group) and Adaptation Scotland would like to invite you to some further adaptation workshops in July and August, two of which are exclusive to NUDC members and will follow on from the AGM discussion. The workshops will provide a space for NUDC members to share their ideas, expertise, knowledge and experiences of local climate change, and contribute to adaptation actions which will be included in the revised Local Outcomes Improvement Plan. The two workshops will run somewhat independently of one another, meaning you can join for one or both – although we hope you can join us for both! Please see the poster attached and read below for more information. NUDC climate adaptation workshops | 26th July and 2nd August | 7-9pm | Online Workshop 1, 26th July from 7-9pm: What do we want to protect? This workshop will include a brief presentation on climate adaptation and the Outer Hebrides climate adaptation plan (for those who could not attend the AGM in April), before exploring maps of climate hazards in North Uist (compiled at previous events by community members), and discussing your priorities for adaptation in North Uist. The aim of this workshop is to get a clearer idea of what matters to local people in North Uist – and therefore what the climate adaptation plan should prioritise! Workshop 2, 2nd August from 7-9pm: How do we protect it? This workshop will give a brief summary of the previous workshop (for those who cannot attend on the 26th), before exploring what adaptation actions could and should look like for North Uist and wider Uist. There will also be an opportunity to sign up to further, community-wide workshops. Please register for the above NUDC workshops by emailing nudc@isleofnorthuist.com.
