What is The North Uist Development Company?
The North Uist Development Company (NUDC) was founded in March 2010 as a development of the North Uist Partnership. Its core aim is to develop a sustainable and viable community through promoting social, educational, cultural, economic and environmental wellbeing in North Uist.
The North Uist Partnership, which itself dated back to 2001, was a partnership of voluntary groups in North Uist, which had come into being to action a number of sustainability goals and objectives identified in the North Uist Area Strategy (2001). The creation of the Development Company from the Partnership came about as a result of changes in the way other potential partners operated.
The NUDC comprises six directors from the community acting in an individual capacity rather than representing any particular organisations. The NUDC is currently the anchor organisation for two part-time Community Account Managed (CAM) local development officers. This is funded by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and LEADER. The North Uist Development Company and the local development officers work closely with the community coordinator, employed by the Comhairle, as well as other community workers in North Uist and other local development officers throughout the islands.
