Membership

NUDC is formed by its members and directors, and currently has a membership of 750. 

​The company has members resident in all parts of North Uist as well as the islands of Berneray, Grimsay and Baleshare. There are at present around 50 associate members, in addition to the 700 ordinary members. ​

​Membership is free to all who support the objectives of NUDC.

​NUDC currently has five directors from the community, each acting in an individual capacity rather than representing any particular organisations.  

​The charity also has one member of staff, funded by income from Uist Wind.  ​

Types of membership

Ordinary Membership

For individuals aged 18 and over who (a) are ordinarily resident in the Community; and (b) are entitled to vote at a local government election in a polling district that includes the Community or part of it; and (c) who support the Purposes of the Company; with the right to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and any Emergency General Meeting (EGM) and, have important powers under these Articles and the Act, who elect people to serve as Directors and take decisions in relation to any changes to these Articles.

Associate Membership

For individuals who are not ordinarily resident in the Community (who live off-island) and those organisations wherever located that support the Purposes. Associate Members are neither eligible to stand for election to the Board nor to vote at any General Meeting.

Junior Membership

For individuals who are aged between 12 and 17 who support the purposes. Junior members are neither eligible to stand for election to the board nor to vote at any general meeting.
